Christmas is a wondrous time around Weymouth, Dorchester and East Dorset. Twinkling lights, festive Christmas markets and, between the celebrations, there’s Lulworth and other Jurassic Coast villages to enjoy.
Christmas Lights and Xmas Markets
Weymouth is usually first to ‘switch on’ its Christmas lights.
Swanage opens its festive season 1 December, lighting up at 4.30pm
Dorchester illuminates Thursday 6th December with its annual Christmas Cracker event and late-night shopping.
Corfe Castle folk gather in the village to turn on their Christmas lights with Carols in the Castle 9 December 5pm.
Christmas in Weymouth
Weymouth’s BIG Christmas opens 1 December with the official lighting-up ceremony at 6pm. Don’t miss Santa’s Reindeer procession to Cineworld at 5pm before joining the penguins at Weymouth Sealife Centre Santa’s Cabin from 8 December (Date TBC).
Back in the town centre, Celebrity Ice Skating will delight before the street rink opens for the public to enjoy until 1 January. Entertainment and music will be there to build the festive excitement up to the Grand Lights switch on at 6pm.
All children love a pantomime, even the grown-up ones, so take a look at ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and other Christmas Shows at Weymouth Pavilion from 9 December. We’ll all ‘see red’ on 17 December when hundreds of bearded ‘Santas’ participate in the annual 5k Christmas Pudding Run across Weymouth beach.
Upton Grange family cottages for Christmas holidays are conveniently close to all these seasonal events, just 6 miles east of Weymouth in Dorset.
Dorchester’s Christmas Cracker
7 December is the grand start to Dorchester’s Christmas with a ‘cracker’ of a day in South Street when the Christmas market opens at 11.00am. See our selection of cottages for Christmas holidays.
Swanage & Corfe
Swanage prepares for its Christmas celebration from 1 December, with Christmas illuminations and its ‘Pop up’ craft market along the sea front each weekend. The Swanage Steam Railway attracts children and grown-ups for its Santa Steam Specials to Corfe where Christmas lights will illuminate the village, castle and local craft fayres weekends from 7 December and Christmas Steam Specials daily 1 – 24 December.
